Man’s Elephant Mesh Shirt
Posted on April 5th, 2008 by Marie-Lynn
This whimsical Tunisian crochet model from 1975 features elephants. Found in the Häkel-ABC 75: Lehrganag und Modelle (German and French text). This magazine has tons of absolutely adorable patterns and features specific instructions and pattern for Tunisians crochet. Unlike regular crochet, Tunisian Crochet is worked in complete rows so it is a cross between crochet and knitting.

You’re probably correct in the date of this pattern, however, it is definitely not Tunisian crochet.
Tunisian crochet is a technique that is a cross between knitting and crocheting, some stitches can resemble knitting (such as the knit and purl stitches), others resemble crochet (such as the double and shell), while others look more like weaving (afghan stitch).
This shirt is made in the technique called Filet crochet, and uses the basic double crochets and chains worked in a mesh. The stitches are worked one stitch at a time.
